There were fireworks on Tuesday, March 11th as President Trump reacted to Canadian Province Ontario's plans to add a surcharge to electricity sent to 3 US states.  President Trump threatened to increase tariffs on the metals from Canada to 50% but that was soon rescinded as Ontario pulled its plans...

Daniel Cannistra
Partner at  Crowell & Moring LLP

Dan Cannistra is a partner in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. His practice focuses on legislative, executive and regulatory representation of domestic and international clients on a broad spectrum of international trade matters.
 
Dan has represented domestic and foreign companies in over 75 U.S. antidumping and countervailing duty cases before the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. International Trade Commission under the Tariff Act of 1930. Many of these matters involved appeals to the U.S. Court of International Trade, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, binational panels under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and dispute settlement proceedings before the World Trade Organization (WTO).
 
Dan has also represented clients in antidumping proceedings in the European Union, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, India, Thailand, Singapore, Guatemala and Taiwan.

Vincent Iacopella

EVP Strategic Growth, President-Government and Trade Relations at Alba

Vince is a licensed Customs Broker and past president of the Los Angeles Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association. He's now Chairman of the Pacific Coast Council of Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders. In March 2013, he was appointed to the 13th Commercial Customs Advisory Committee for Customs and Border Protection, better known as COAC.

Vince served on the 14th COAC as Trade Co-Chair. While on COAC, Vince worked on customs broker regulations, automation of trade data in ACE, and e-commerce Sec 321 de minimus policy. Vince serves as the Los Angeles Vice Chair of the District Export Council of Southern Council, and is on the Board of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. Vince is also on the Board of Governors of the American Association of Exporters and Importers (AAEI).

At Alba, Vince works on growth strategy initiatives that drive value to Alba's mid-market and global customers.  Vince focuses collaboration with US Government agencies, such as the COAC, which allows the trade to influence CBP policy and align it to the commercial interests of the private sector.
